How a British life coach and former monk made Hollywood’s ‘Bennifer’ romance a reality

It may be the greatest Hollywood love story of the 21st century. Jennifer Lopez finally married Ben Affleck last weekend, 20 years after their first engagement – and, according to reports, they had a former North London high school student to thank for making their fairytale romance a reality.

Jay Shetty, who grew up in a townhouse just off Green Lanes in Wood Green — about 5,500 miles and a world away from Hollywood — was the celebrant who presided over the ceremony, according to the New York Post.

Mr Shetty, a former Hindu monk turned celebrity life coach, will now go down in history as the man who finally made “Bennifer” – the union of Affleck and Lopez – a reality.

Affleck, 50, the two-time Oscar winner and star of hit movies like Armageddon and Gone Girl, first dated Lopez, a 53-year-old singer and actress so famous she has her own nickname – JLo – in the early 2000s.

Their relationship crumbled under the pressure of public scrutiny, before a revival of their romance that led to a shotgun wedding in Las Vegas last month.

Then came this weekend’s three-day party with an official wedding ceremony in front of around 100 families and friends who cemented their marriage and proved to the world that it was no joke.

Lopez, now on her fourth husband, wore a traditional white wedding dress, while the groom – embarking on wedding number two – also wore white.

Apparently, the guests too. Photographs that emerged from celebrations at Affleck’s estate outside Savannah, Georgia, on Sunday showed attendees all dressed in white, including the couple’s five children from their previous marriages. Other guests reportedly included Matt Damon, who starred with Affleck in their breakthrough film Good Will Hunting; Kevin Smith, director; and Jimmy Kimmel, the comedian.
