The Kalona Chamber of Commerce has a friendly new face in the office. Heather Kemp has joined the Chamber as an office assistant. Kemp, originally from Kalona, has been working with the staff for a year as a volunteer. Kemp will be responsible for updating community calendar events, assisting guests in the lobby, and plans to take on more responsibilities as the position evolves. Kemp recently spoke with KCII News about her role, what she loves and what turns her on the most. “My mother had the Carriage House Bed and Breakfast on the west side of town. People called him after the House closed. My dad actually called it ‘Edia-Pedia’, if she didn’t know, no one would. I kind of inherited my love for Kalona. I’m at the window, I’m a friendly face, I tell people about where to go here in town, I sell tickets, I run the cash register. I like to see people. Share my love of Kalona and the community here. There are so many hidden gems. I’ve lived here most of my life and came back because I love the people here. They always find more things for people to do. There is always something good to see and explore.

She will be spending time at the House Office on Thursdays and Fridays. You can hear more from Kemp on Wednesday as she joins us on the JJ Nichting Company In Touch With Southeast Iowa program.
