LLC co-owned by Ilhan Omar’s husband received $ 635,000 in COVID relief

A political advisory group co-owned by Representative Ilhan Omar’s husband has received nearly $ 635,000 in coronavirus funds, according to public records.

Tim Mynett’s E Street Group LLC received $ 134,800 this year under the Paycheck Protection Program; he also received $ 500,000 in economic disaster loans.

Omar (D-Minn.) And Mynett tied the knot in March, and just weeks after getting married, his consulting firm was paid $ 189,000 by Omar’s campaign, The post reported in July.

Mynett was allegedly Omar’s lover until their affair was revealed last year, when the two were still married to other people.

Federal Election Commission records show that progressive lawmakers have additionally channeled nearly $ 2.8 million at her future husband’s office from early 2019 to July 22, 2020.

Omar’s team also sent the E Street group $ 1.6 million for the third quarter, sending an additional $ 27,000 in the weeks that followed.

The FEC allows lawmakers to hire family members or spouses to work on their campaigns, but political ethics experts have said the practice creates suspicion.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing regarding her relationship with her husband when ethical questions were raised regarding payments to his business earlier this year.

“We consulted with one of the main advocates of the FEC campaign to make sure there were no possible legal issues with our relationship,” she said in a message on Twitter in March, just days after her marriage to Mynett. “We were told that it is not uncommon and that no, there is not.”

Omar cut professional ties with Mynett in mid-November while denying any wrongdoing, according to Fox News. The announcement, which took the form of an email to supporters, was intended to end speculation about their work.

Before cutting ties, however, she was by far the biggest customer of the E Street group, according to Open secrets data, with nearly a third of his campaign dollars going to the business of his then-supposed lover last August, according to the Washington Examiner.

A spokesperson for Omar did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
