MOUNT AIRY, Md. (WDVM) – There is only one day to officially celebrate Moms, but a Main Street association wanted to make Mother’s Day even more special.
the Mount Airy Main Street Association offered carriage rides to mothers and their families for a scenic ride through the city.
Horse-drawn carriages took families on a scenic ride through Mount Airy and though Emily Rieger may have planned her special day but was more than excited to celebrate with her family.
âI planned my own day and that’s okay. I’m with two toddlers, that’s what you do! It was our first carriage ride, [it was] so romantic and then you look through and there are two toddlers, âRieger said. âWe loved it and the kids think it’s amazing. We told them we were doing the carriage ride this morning and all we talked about all day were the horses.
Sara Menso and her family frequently visit Mount Airy Main Street and were happy to step out of the house after a peaceful Mother’s Day celebration last year. Although she saw the horse-drawn carriage rides through town at other times of the year, she never took a ride. She was excited to share the experience with her three sons and her husband despite planning the experience for the family.
âWe saw them, but no, I didn’t know them. This is the first time that I have done it, âsaid Menso,â It’s good. It’s really nice to go out and be in the crowd and do normal things again, so that’s good â
Mothers not only got a carriage ride, but also enjoyed flowers, chocolates and a drink from businesses on Main Street. Cindy Johnson and her family were happy to support local small businesses while celebrating Mother’s Day.
âIt’s also great to be able to be on Main Street because we love our city and love spending time in the city,â Johnson said. âI am really happy that we are able to support our local businesses. I know everyone has had a tough year and it’s great to be outside and the sun has come so we can celebrate Mother’s Day and have a lovely day.
The Mount Airy Main Street Association usually organizes carriage rides around Christmas, but wanted to provide mothers with a special experience on Mother’s Day.
