NFL Pecking Order … Oklahoma’s New Coach … Canuck Shakes | National News from the Associated Press

NO DATE (AP) – The Cardinals are the best team in the NFL right now. Quarterback Kyler Murray returned after missing three games with injury to lead Arizona to a 33-22 victory over the Bears in Chicago. Green Bay and Tampa Bay are just behind in the NFC at 9-3, then it’s the Rams and Cowboys at 8-4. The AFC is pretty much a mess, with the Patriots, Titans, Ravens and Chiefs in the lead, all at 8-4.

IRVING, TX (AP) – For the first time, the College Football Playoff includes an outside team at the Power Five Conferences. And this team comes with the best record. Cincinnati is undefeated on the season and champion of the American Athletic Conference. They will face Alabama in the Cotton Bowl and Michigan will face Georgia in the Orange Bowl on New Years Eve.

NO DATE (AP) – Oklahoma has hired Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables as their head coach to replace Lincoln Riley. Venables was on the Oklahoma staff under Bob Stoops as defensive co-coordinator and then defensive coordinator from 1999 to 2011. At Clemson, he won the Broyles Award in 2016 as the nation’s best assistant.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – The Vancouver Canucks cleaned up the house late Sunday night, knocking down three executives and head coach Travis Green. General manager Jim Benning is gone, along with assistant manager Jim Weisbrod and assistant coach Nolan Baumgartner. Veteran NHL coach Bruce Boudreau will replace Green behind the bench.

NO DATE (AP) – Buck O’Neil, a champion of black baseball players with a monumental eight-decade career on and off the field, is heading into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He will join Gil Hodges, Minnie Miñoso, former Minnesota Twins teammates Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat as well as Bud Fowler. All were chosen by a pair of veterans committees.
