CAPE ELIZABETH – Dorothea Blanchard Foss passed away on Saturday May 22, 2021. Born in Concord, NH on December 9, 1932, daughter of Francis Gardner Blanchard and Ruth Gillingham Blanchard, Dorrie attended schools in New Hampshire, graduated from Gorham High School, Gorham, NH, Class of 1950. After graduating, she attended Northeastern Business College in Portland. While working at Webber Travel Service in Portland, she met her husband, Clifton Macy Foss, when he went to the office to plan a trip. Dorrie and Clif married in 1957 and moved to Cape Elizabeth where they raised their two children. Their daughter, Angela Ruth Foss, lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and their son, Andrew Clifton Foss, lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his partner, Denise Rivoal. community volunteer work. She was vice-president and treasurer of the Portland Junior League; past president of the advisory service of Greater Portland Repères; past president of the Victoria Society of Maine (now known as Victoria Mansion); president of the Victoria Mansion Carriage House Preservation Project; past chairman and treasurer of the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Children’s Hospital Visiting Committee; former chair of the flower boxes committee, MMC; former trustee, MMC; and corporator of MaineHealth. In 2008, Dorrie received special recognition for 5,000 hours of volunteer service at MMC. In addition to the above, she was a former administrator of the First Congregational Church, UCC, South Portland. Dorrie’s particular interests included historical preservation, antiques, gardening, and flower arranging. While volunteering as a designer in MMC’s flower box, she was able to use her creative flower arrangement skills. Survivor, in addition to his children, are his two brothers, Sheldon G. Blanchard and his wife Beverly of Gastonia, North Carolina and Dexter F. Blanchard of Willow, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday June 10 at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth. Arrangements are under the direction of Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland.
