Police are looking for vandals who destroyed dozens of Jay Maine’s gravestones

Some people are absolutely bad. There are so many incredibly wonderful people who live and work here in the central Maine community, then there are those who are not so incredibly wonderful.

According to WGME 13, the tombstones were destroyed on Friday, leaving many toppled and even some broken. Damaged gravestones belong to a multitude of different people, including US military veterans.

Some tombstones even date from the 1800s. Several families came to the cemetery following the vandalism to see if their family’s stones were still intact. The International Cemetery Association told WGME that incidents like this are highest near the Halloween season.

Anyone with information or leads in the investigation should contact the Jay, Maine Police Department at 207.897.6766
