Wetzel’s float combines a classic California road trip and a beach party, the float features a custom-painted convertible that sails to the rhythm of the rousing tunes of a boom box, with surfboards in tow. Palm trees, gram-worthy snacks, and iconic road signs, including Route 66 and Route 1 of the Pacific Coast Highway, complete the scene. In partnership with Artistic Entertainment Services, the masterpiece will be constructed using natural materials in its design. Covering an 18 ‘wide x 55’ long footprint, a wire frame forms the base of the float. Then, the 3D structures are sculpted and painted, before the last step of gluing over 200,000 flowers and seeds.
The Route 66 theme is a perfect tie-in with Pacific Park on the redesigned Santa Monica Pier steel roller coaster that runs 55 feet above the Santa Monica Pier and offers stunning views of the South Coast of the California. Pacific Park began reinventing its classic West Coaster roller coaster in 2020 with an all-new theme to celebrate Route 66. Santa Monica Pier guests can look forward to a celebration for Route 66 West Coaster in the summer. 2022.
The Route 66 West Coaster Roller Coaster Loading Dock is enhanced with automotive décor featuring old-fashioned gas pumps, Route 66 license plates and maps, plus specialty memorabilia. The all-new roller coasters were designed from the wheels, as new racing cars feature design cues from classic American passenger cars that are reminiscent of a bygone era of automotive excellence and beauty.
Embodying the theme of the Rose Parade “Dream. To believe. Achieve. ”Wetzel’s chariot represents the ideals of the American Dream and how motivated individuals can achieve lofty life-changing goals. Starting from the dream of improving the snack category in a fresh and fun way, the founders Bill Phelps and Rick Wetzel followed their entrepreneurial passion by starting the business in their hometown of Pasadena and opening their first bakery in Redondo Beach in 1994. Success soon followed, leading to the creation of a franchise concept in fast growing and in demand.
For millions of people around the world, the Rose Parade is an iconic New Year’s Eve tradition. The Rose Parade runs 5 1/2 miles on Colorado Blvd. and has four types of entries: flower floats entered by a participating society, non-profit organization or municipality, equestrian units, marching bands and tournament entries. Participants in the Rose Parade have a long history with the Tournament of Roses and carry on traditions. The first Tournament of Roses welcomed 3,000 spectators for its first parade filled with beautiful carriages covered with flowers. More than a century later, the parade floats are a marvel of cutting-edge technology, all hidden under flowers and other all-natural materials.
