Scandi 5K returns after COVID-19 cancellation last year

Scandinavian days and National Carousel Day will coincide in Story City on Saturday, July 24 this year after the two celebrations were canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the popular events – the Scandi 5K Fun Run and Walk – is back and registration is open now.

The Scandi 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. on July 24. Registration is available now on www.scandi5k.com. To mail an entry, checks should be made payable to the Story City Historical Society and mailed to PO Box 104, Story City, IA 50248.

The registration fee is $ 20 for adults and $ 10 for children 10 and under, if postmarked or received by July 2. The fee includes a t-shirt. After July 2, fees increase to $ 25 for adults, fees for children remain at $ 10, and t-shirts will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

This map shows the planned route for the Scandi 5K on Saturday July 24.

Package pickup will be Friday, July 23 from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Carriage House Museum, 619 Grand Ave., and Saturday, July 24 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m. at the information booth at the Story City Greater Chamber Connection, 524 Broad St.

In inclement weather, the key factor will be lightning. If it rains without lightning, the event will still take place at the scheduled departure time. If there is lightning, the race will be postponed until it is safe for you to run. If the weather forecast for July 24 cancels the race, it will be postponed to the same time on Sunday July 25. Race fees are non-refundable.

Scandi 5K is a non-profit event, and the proceeds will support the Story City Historical Society.
