The annual St. Petersburg Flower Festival is just one event in a series of exciting events scheduled to coincide with World Tourism Day on September 25. The stand up paddle (SUP) festival and the international fanfares festival are also organized to mark the occasion in the city.
The Flower Festival is famous for its large, vibrant arrangements. Designed by the best florists in town, these displays are the centerpiece of the flower parade, which also features horse drawn carriages, custom motor vehicles, retro cars, art displays, dancers and mannequins adorned with floral outfits.
This year, the floral motif theme focuses on the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship with a special disguised procession to celebrate the host cities of the competition, including St. Petersburg.
You can watch the procession live in this article at 2:00 p.m. CET on Saturday September 25.
Along with the Flower Festival, there is the International Fanfares Festival – an annual event that has been taking place for over 10 years. The Fanfares Festival is a celebration of classical music by Russian fanfares and marching bands. It includes a grand parade and a series of exhibitions on the parade ground featuring famous bands and Russian musicians and performers of classical music and opera. The event will be held next to the St. Petersburg Stadium (Gazprom Arena) and will feature famous compositions from a range of composers from St. Petersburg and Leningrad.
Along with the fanfares and brass bands festival, the SUP Festival will also present in St. Petersburg a colorful exhibition of costumed paddle boarders. Hundreds of participants will row along the Moika River, one of the rivers that encircle the center of this historic city.
